Weather Underground announced this week that it was releasing its iPhone WunderRadio application featuring listings from Radiotime.
The new application, which sells for $5.99, will allow users to utilize the iPhone's GPS capability to automatically locate nearby radio streams including NOAA weather radio streams...which makes sense given that the app was put out by Weather Underground.
We think that this is a brilliant idea...and not just because Radiotime now owns Radiosherpa's technology:-)
Weather is already the most popular news information searched for on mobile phones. And, as we mentioned in a previous post, Pandora has proven that the public is also ready for streaming radio on their phones. The combination of Radiotime's listings and the WunderRadio application ensures that people can easily find their local weather AND local radio stations at the same time.
Mark Ramsey points out that it would be even better if the app was free. This may eventually happen, but it still represents a great step forward for terrestrial radio.
Based on some of the comments in Mark's blog, it appears many terrestrial radio Program Directors agree.
